World Telecommunication Day is observed on 17th May annually. This day marks the anniversary of the first International Telegraph Convention and the establishment of the International Communication Union.
The day was established by UN General Telecommunication in something which is done over a distance by cable, telegraph or broadcasting.
The main purpose behind celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to help raising awareness in generating great possibilities of using the internet, other information societies, economies and create a way to bridge the digital divide.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated every year with a new theme to raise awareness about the importance of communication and focuses on increasing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This year’s World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2024 focuses on how digital innovation may help link everyone and create sustainable prosperity for all.
